Around 70 people came out to a rally in Moncton to show their support for the Wet’suwet’en people.
They’re rallying to stop the Coastal GasLink pipeline from being built across First Nation land in British Columbia.
Leslie Chandler came out yesterday to show her support, “I support every peaceful blockade in Canada. I am not in favour of third parties doing the consultative process with First Nations rather than government officials doing that process.”
The rally was organized by Mackenzie Dunnett, a Moncton High student.
“We have youth and a community, who are passionate about what is happening in British Columbia. We really want to support the people there who are being affected, to show we can come together as a community to do that,” Dunnett says.
The group gathered in front of Moncton City Hall and heard from several aboriginal speakers, before marching to MP Ginette Petitpas-Taylor’s office to leave letters, seeking her support.
Chandler says, “We must respect lands and territories and we need new ways of doing things and we really need to protect our environment.”
