The president of the Moncton Wildcats says while he’s disappointed the Memorial Cup has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he feels it’s in the best interest of the players, fans and the entire community.
“These are unprecedented times that call for difficult actions. The Moncton Wildcats understand and agree with the CHL’s decision,” said Robert K. Irving.
Prior to the season suspension on March 12, the Wildcats were in second place overall in the QMJHL with 101 points in 64 games.
“I want to congratulate and thank our players and coaches for their winning season, especially the amazing run at the end,” said Irving. “They gave our fans and the community something to be proud about.”
“I also want to thank our billet families, season ticket holders, booster club, fans and sponsors. You’ve supported our team for 24 seasons and that means a lot to our entire organization.”
“And last, but not least, thank you to our hockey operations, front office and game day staff. Your contributions throughout the season were greatly appreciated. Thank you.”
Details on the 2020-2021 season will be released once available.
