There’s a new form of entertainment coming to Greater Moncton, starting tonight.
Manager for East Coast Amusement Nathan Smithers says with COVID-19, their regular operations have not been able to resume this summer.
So they’ve created the Hub City Drive In, that is located at Solomon Gardens on Salisbury Road.
“Due to the social distancing restrictions, there are no fairs or midways operating currently. The company was basically doing nothing and everyone was unemployed and we had to try and come up with a concept that fits into our normal business model of outdoor entertainment,” Smithers says.
Smithers says, there appears to be drive in theatres popping up in regions across the country due to the pandemic, “There are a few big movie fans within the company who thought this would be a neat idea and it fits into the current social distancing protocols, so we thought, why not give it a shot.”
He adds there was a lot of work went into putting this together, “A lot of planning and permits through the city, getting all of the proper approvals and movie licensing. A lot of paperwork and a lot of physical work.”
There’s room for 150 cars at the Hub City drive in, and tickets can be purchased online or at the gate.
East Coast Amusements will also have its food trucks on site, with things like popcorn, caramel corn, and cotton candy.
Smithers says, they will also be donating some of the proceeds to charity. They’ll be looking for suggestions each week. He says, the first week, a donation will be given to the Greater Moncton SPCA.
