Campgrounds See Bookings Rise With Atlantic Bubble

Some campgrounds are seeing an influx of bookings since the Atlantic Bubble was introduced on Friday.

Killam Apartments REIT owns Camper’s City in Moncton and Oceanic Camping in Shediac.

Spokesperson Jeremy Jackson says before the bubble, seasonal sites were filling up, but not the weekend ones.

“Prior to the bubble, our seasonal campers were quite anxious and they began settling in, in early to mid-May. The other side of the coin, which is the overnight and weekend campsites. We certainly weren’t overwhelmed with those bookings,” Jackson says.

When the bubble opened, they saw a significant spike, “Things sparked up significantly. Both of our parks in New Brunswick, we have a number of Newfoundlanders staying with us as seasonal. Before the bubble, there was a lot of uncertainty for them. So certainly, we’ve seen a significant spike in Atlantic Canadians,” Jackson says.

He adds, their campers seem to be wanting to spend more time with them.

“Normally, with the weekend and overnight sites, we would see people booking for two to three days. Well, what we are seeing is a lot more of those, but they’re also booking for a week. We’ve also had a good number of people who have been booking for a month,” Jackson says.
