A Spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development believes a smell of smoke in Southeast New Brunswick earlier today, is related to two fires in the province.
Nick Brown says one is in the Bartibog area just north of Miramichi and the other, north of Kouchibouquac.
No communities or homes are threatened by either fire.
The first, is around 40 hectares in size. Seven airtankers, including one from Quebec have been battling the flames, along with ground crews.
A perimeter has been set up in an effort to prevent it from spreading.
The second, is around 75 hectares, and is in a boggy area with no road access.
Brown says a they will decide today whether an air attack is needed.
Numerous reports came in to our radio station this morning, as well as to local fire departments, and on social media of a heavy smell of smoke.
Dieppe Fire District Chief Marc Cormier says, “It is not uncommon for smoke to travel extended distances during forest fires.”
