The City of Moncton is seeking public feedback over plans to expand the Skipper Jack’s Restaurant and parking lot.
The project borders on Rabbit Brook which has raised environmental concerns and wildlife experts say the waterway is a key corridor for turtles.
Restaurant owner Robert Holmes says bleak and destructive things have been said about this proposal.
Holmes says the plans have been altered and include a shorter culvert extension under Mapleton Road which will allow for the safe passage of fish – if there is any.
“We will eliminate any soil erosion that has been going down into Rabbit Brook. Also, there’s debris and everything that accumulates there and finds its way down the Petitcodiac (River).”
Despite the changes, city staff are still not recommending this project for approval.
A public hearing has been scheduled at Moncton City Hall on September 21 at 4pm.
