In the riding of Albert, MLA elect Mike Holland is ready to get down to work.
But he says there’s something he has to do first, “I have to mow my lawn, that has been neglected for quite awhile. Once that is done, I am looking forward to getting in touch with my team and finding out how we are going to get that work done that we had started and get New Brunswick back on track.”
Holland says he hopes to continue initiatives that he had started in the previous term, “Related to conservation and expanding habitat throughout the province of New Brunswick. They’re crucial, we’re working on some pretty historic files and I’m committed to make sure we keep driving that agenda and getting the work done.”
In Riverview, it’s clear that many voters in the community have confidence in the job Bruce Fitch has been doing.
The MLA elect is about to serve his sixth term, after receiving the majority of the votes last nights.
Fitch says he is excited to be a part of this new majority Conservative government with Blaine Higgs as the Leader, “He guided us through COVID and now he’s the one to bring us out. I am more than happy to be there helping him to do that.”
He says it was certainly an election campaign he has never experienced before and one he won’t forget, “We did the signs, and I went out with the sign crew, as I usually do. People would go by and honk and wave. So we were getting the feedback, even though we weren’t doing the door-to door. I’m a lot more rested after this one than the others.”
Fitch says he is ready to address some of the concerns brought forth by area constituents, but he may take a couple of days off first before getting down to work.
Sherry Wilson is also ready for another term representing her riding of Moncton Southwest.
The MLA elect says there are issues she would like to see the provincial government focus on, “Domestic violence. We know it is on the rise, and I would really like to address mental health issues, like the homeless here in Moncton. I just want to create a more prosperous, and I know we can do that by supporting our businesses as well, a more prosperous New Brunswick.”
Wilson also wants to work hard on the National Inquiry of murdered and missing indigenous girls.
She says even with a majority government, leader Blaine Higgs will work with everyone and listen to all concerns, “Just because some ridings don’t have a PC MLA, they still will be represented and their concerns will be heard. They need to recognize that.”
The Progressive Conservatives won 27 seats, the Liberals 17, Green Party with three seats and the peoples Alliance were elected in two seats.
