For the first time in seven years, Moncton is getting a direct flight to St. John’s, Newfoundland.
PAL Airlines is offering five days a week service starting on Monday September 21.
The two-hour flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays and will depart St. John’s at 7:30am to arrive in Moncton at 9:30am and return to St. John’s at 10:10am.
PAL Airlines director of business development Janine Browne says a Moncton to Ottawa flight is also in the works once travel restrictions are eased.
“We plan to stick around. We hope that the business community and the community in general – in New Brunswick as a whole – really get behind it and support this service.”
Browne says the airline is finalizing plans on hiring the local ground crew.
PAL Airlines will be operating a Dash-8 aircraft which carries up to 50 passengers along with cargo.
PAL sales manager Stephen Short says the airline also sees an opportunity for cargo.
“The beauty of our fleet is that it allows flexibility. If we’re able to identify days of the week where higher volumes of cargo versus lower volumes of passengers are moving that will keep the route successful and more able to then swap-in aircraft.”
Previous to this service, travellers had to catch a flight to Newfoundland from Halifax.
