This has been a tough year for non-profits such as domestic violence shelters whose typical fundraising activities have been decimated by public health restrictions.
But Crossroads for Women in Moncton is now celebrating after a $100,000 donation from iA Financial Group.
The shelter was one of three organizations nationwide to receive the most votes in the company’s annual philanthropic contest.
Crossroads for Women executive director Chantal Poirier and her colleagues were ecstatic when they found out during a virtual call on Thursday.
“So you can imagine that $100,000 for us makes a huge difference especially during COVID.”
Poirier says the pandemic has created a surge of women seeking shelter.
She says the impending change in weather has made the situation life-threatening since a lack of beds means they have to turn some women away.
To make more room, Poirier says some staff have moved into another location.
However, the renovations needed to convert the space into bedrooms are costly and she says these new funds will go a long way to turning Crossroads’ vision of an expanded safe space into a reality.
“To the team at iA Financial, and to every single person that voted, we want to let you know that vulnerable women and children now have a real shot at a new life thanks to you,” summarizes Poirier.
“On behalf of the board and staff at Crossroads, we owe you our truest and deepest thanks.”
