Old Saint Nick will make a stop in the Village of Salisbury over the weekend.
Councillor Robert Campbell says after recent chats with Santa, he has decided to make a special trip, in an effort to help put kids at ease during the pandemic.
He says Santa’s reindeer are going to get him here from the North Pole on Saturday night at 5:30, “They’re going to fly in and drop him off. They obviously need rest for Christmas eve, but they’re going to drop him off at our community tree, where he is going to do a lighting. Then, Fire and Rescue are going to escort him over to our firehall.”
He’ll be met there by his team, “A local gentleman, Doug Stoakley who has worked with Santa over the years, to train a group of sled dogs. They have a special Santa sled all rigged up, and Santa’s helpers that are going to pull Santa through the Village.”
Santa will then be led down a three kilometre stretch of Main Street, heading from the firehall up and around the Legion and back down Main Street through the Parkin/Larsen Subdivision. He’ll then head back onto Main Street and then finish at the firehall.
Spectators can wave from their homes or their cars, in an effort to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. Santa Claus will even be wearing a mask.
If you miss Santa on Main Street, he’ll be with his Sled and dogs by the Firehall at 6:30pm. Families are invited to drive by and wave to Santa. They ask that you come down Douglas St and exit on River Road.
Campbell says Santa has been spotted a couple of times in the community already, “Santa does shop locally in a lot of our communities around new Brunswick. He can’t carry everything on his sleigh, so he works with a lot of local store owners.”
