The Town of Riverview introduced a new Fire Chief this week, but he is no stranger to the department.
Chief Robin True joined Riverview Fire and Rescue in 2012. He moves from the role of Deputy Chief of Training.
True says this Promotion comes with some new duties, “More of the Human Resource Management on the Chief side, as well as managing the budgets within the department. Those are probably the biggest differences from being a Deputy Chief in charge of a Training division versus being the Fire Chief.
True take over for Dennis Pleau, who will retire in the beginning of February.
The New Chief feels Riverview Fire and Rescue is fairly busy in the community it serves.
“We still handle over 300 fire, and emergency related calls, technical rescues, and motor vehicle collisions. We have 600-700 medical calls in a given year. So our average is around 950-1000 calls a year,” True says.
One of the things he is really looking forward to is a new training facility for Riverview Fire and Rescue, “It will allow us to be able to train our volunteers firefighters who are coming into our organization taking their Firefighter Level 1. But also for our career and volunteer firefighters to do ongoing training especially in hose line advancement and those types of skills. We need a newer facility for that.”
Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in 2021. It will be located on Niagara Road on Town property.
