Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have confirmed that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family, that according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
With this decision, Harry’s military appointments will be returned to the Queen, and redistributed to other members of the family.
Regional Spokesperson for the Monarchist League of Canada Barry Mackenzie says this is not an unusual move, and he has seen it before,”This means, in terms of the ongoing role that they would have had, as seniors members of the family attending various events, carrying out a variety of Royal patronage’s that are typically passed down from one generation to another and so on.”
Mackenzie says Harry and Meghan announced in 2020, they were stepping away, and a 12 month review was agreed upon.
He says this decision really comes as no surprise, “Really the conclusion of a long year of speculation that I think most people had predicted seemed unlikely given the way things unfolded around here last year, that we were going to see the Duke and Duchess take a path that is different from this one.”
He believes the Queen would be disappointed though, “Not in a disappointed sense that she will hold a grudge. The Queen though, as a sovereign, is also a grandmother. Any grandmother would not want to see their grandchild in a position of a life that may make them unhappy.”
The statement from the Royal family says, “They are saddened by the this decision, but the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family”
It was learned earlier this week, that the Duke and Duchess are expecting their second child.
