An expansion at the Hospice Shoppe on Collishaw Drive will mean more funds raised for palliative care.
Board Chair for Hospice Southeast New Brunswick Dennis Cochrane says they wanted to find a way at their current location to create more space, “So we bought the building, tore down the wall, and extended the shop into that area. Then completely renovated, painted, added some new lighting, change the dressing rooms around and added around 1200 to 1300 square feet of space. The intention behind that was to provide a bit of extra space for some offices for Hospice Southeast new Brunswick, but primarily to add about 33 per cent of retail floor space.”
The Shoppe, located at 164 Collishaw Street, is now more spacious, with more gently used, second hand items that have come from donors.
“By buying the building, we improved our cash flow by about $33000 a year. We only have two staff and another part time one, and a whole cadbury of great volunteers. So we try to keep our staffing and operating costs low,” Cochrane says.
Established in 2004, Hospice SENB is a registered charity that promotes awareness about end-of-life issues, provides grief and bereavement services and support for palliative clients and their families, and raises funds to support its residential hospice. The Hospice Shoppe helps to support these free, and confidential services that are available to all citizens of Albert, Kent and Westmorland counties.
The Hospice Shoppe will also soon launch a new online service on the Hospice SENB website. The new page will feature photos and full descriptions of collectables, antiques and clothing and household items for sale. Shoppers can pay and arrange for pickup online from the comfort of their home.
