Dieppe mayor Yvon Lapierre has made it official… he’s running again in the May municipal elections.
“I am proud of the work accomplished by our municipal council and the municipal staff during my last mandate. Thanks to visionary initiatives and proactive leadership, as displayed in the Sustainable Community Plan by strengthening our tree protection bylaws with the adoption of a Tree Code. Our continuous city growth, Dieppe is well positioned to continue its development and face any future challenges, among those brought forward by the COVID-19 pandemic and play an essential role in the economic recovery of the province. Our city is proud to offer current and future citizens the opportunity to live fully, to have rewarding work possibilities, a wide range of entertainment and the potential to prosper,” Lapierre announced in a statement to the media.
Lapierre added that the collaboration of the municipal council, staff and citizens has allowed for the sustained pace of development, both culturally and socially, as well as economically, without any increase in municipal taxes.
“Going through this pandemic and seeing the resilience of my fellow citizens in Dieppe, I am feeling great about where the city is heading and I am committed to continue working tirelessly to the continuous growth of all sectors in Dieppe during the next mandate,”
noted Lapierre.
“We have succeeded in organizing events of international scope, including the National Acadian Day during the CMA2019. We have also completed construction on the UNIplex intergenerational centre, in addition to setting a new record for building permits value granted in 2020.”
Lapierre was a Dieppe city councillor in the 1980s before being elected mayor in 1998.
He served until 2005 when he resigned to take a job in the U.S.
Lapierre eventually returned to Dieppe and was elected mayor again in 2012 and in 2016.
