A local organization was forced to rethink their vision on how to find dogs loving homes.
Founder of the Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program Deb Levasseur says they are changing their name to the Maritime Canine Adoption Program, “We’ve been bringing in other breeds of dogs now who need our help and loving families. As most people know, the greyhound racing has ended in Florida and there are not many dogs who need the homes now.”
Racing was banned in Florida three years ago.
Since it’s creation 16 years ago, MGAP has found homes for over 1200 greyhounds.
“If anybody around the community, or even in the Maritimes has a dog that they can no longer care for, we can put people through a process and support system and follow up and make sure your dog has a really good loving family to take care of them,” Levasseur says.
More information on home to rehome your dog through MGAP, or adopt, can be found on their website or Facebook page.
