The Greater Moncton SPCA is offering help to those who have been forced to stay in for 14 days, due to COVID-19.
Executive Director Dan Fryer says they want to make sure pets get the supplies they need, “You’re in isolation and you can’t get access for whatever reason to special supplies. Let us know and we can go out and pick them up for you. This would be the owners responsibility to pay for the supplies. We’re just helping the pet owners to get them. ”
Fryer also encourages pet owners to include their pets in their emergency preparedness plans.
The GMSPCA recommends that pet owners do the following, whether they have travelled or not, to ensure they are prepared if they should have to quarantine for extended periods of time.
1. Have an extra two weeks supply of pet food and supplies available, including any medications
2. Identify an emergency pet sitter who could care for your pet(s) if you fall ill or need to be hospitalized
3. Prepare a sheet with the daily care instructions for the emergency pet sitter, and include your veterinarian’s contact information
Fryer says, “Recently, I had travelled out of province and came back. My plan was to purchase pet food from an online store knowing that they could deliver the food I was looking for. When I went to buy it, it was out of stock and so I had to reach out to someone locally to go and drop it on my porch for me.”
To access the isolation services, please call the shelter at 506-857-8698 during regular business hours (Monday-Saturday 10am to 7pm) or by email at info@monctonspca.ca
Fryer says, “Whether it is making a plan for pet care or just, sometimes things go wrong or are different from the plan itself. Pet owners may need help getting pet food or supplies or any of the other products we take for granted when we can’t get out and about in the world.”
