A local Principal has been awarded for her role in outstanding educational leadership.
Elizabeth Nowlan received the Vince Sunderland Memorial Award at the recent New Brunswick Teachers Association AGM.
She started her career at a school in Salisbury and then worked with the district for many years. Two years ago, she was named the Principal for Maplehurst Middle School, “The team I work with, the Huskies, the students, the EA’s, Custodians, the Bus Drivers, my Librarian, Cafeteria staff, Admin Assistants, the parents and the teachers, they make me smile and laugh and push me to be better all the time.”
Nowlan was recognized as a leader who inspires Educators and students to do their best, and as a motivating force at the school, “We are in sync with understanding that our role is to support our fantastic teachers and make their jobs better. It is fun to work on a team that is cohesive, affective and pushes the boundaries through change. Building culture together has been a highlight of my long career, and I could not lead without knowing I have them by my side everyday.”
She thanked those involved for making this award a reality for her, “It is humbling and a true honour. I knew Vince as a colleague. He was also the VP at my children’s high school. He had a kind heart. He always saw the best in his students. He supported in the staff he served. Being recognized in his name is a distinction I never expected to receive.”
