A family escaped unharmed after Moncton Fire was called to a Highfield Street home.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Dennis Dollemont says the initial call came in as a chimney fire at around 8:15 last night.
But when they arrived, they found high levels of carbon monoxide in the home and a malfunctioning furnace.
Dollemont says things could have been a lot worse, if the family wasn’t alerted.
Carbon monoxide is known as a silent killer because it is odorless and invisible.
Dollemont recommends having a carbon monoxide detector in your home if you have any fuel burning appliances.
