While you may be able to spend an afternoon at the Moncton North YMCA, there is still work to be done, in order to finish funding the facility.
YMCA’s Building What Matters Campaign set out to raise $3 million in donations for the Centre on Twin Oaks Drive but remains $370,000 away from achieving the goal.
“We’ve come a long way and we’re almost there,” said Bonnie MacFadyen, VP of Philanthropy for the YMCA of Greater Moncton.
The Campaign hit a roadblock when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, causing the project to be put on pause.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the Moncton North YMCA is serving its purpose as a utility for the community, according to the community chair for the Building What Matters Campaign.
“I’ve seen first-hand what the new YMCA Moncton North has meant to our community,” said Norval McConnell.
“You can hear it in the children’s laughter as they enjoy the indoor splash pad and run around the outdoor playground. You see the youth being active and having a place to connect on the outdoor basketball court. Adults are on their journey to better health and wellbeing in the fitness room and seniors are making the most of their day on the indoor walking track.”
The Moncton North YMCA cost $17 million but received contributions from all three levels of government for a total of $14 million.
