Moncton City Councillors have chosen Charles Léger to serve as the next Deputy Mayor.
On Monday night, Council held the procedure for electing a new Deputy Mayor, which involved nominations and a vote.
Ward 1 Councillor Paulette Theriault nominated Léger, while Ward 4 Councillor Paul Richard nominated the acting Deputy Mayor Shawn Crossman.
Léger defeated Crossman, earning votes from five councillors and Mayor Dawn Arnold.
The Deputy Mayor assumes the roles and responsibilities of Mayor if they are unable to perform his or her duties, or in the event the office is vacant.
Ward 2 residents re-elected Léger for his third term in the May 10 municipal elections.
