Downtown Moncton-Centreville Inc has put up a new sign in an effort to raise more awareness of the city.
Executive Director Anne Poirier-Basque says their hope is visitors to the Assomption Place courtyard, will use it as a backdrop for their social media posts, “We’re always trying to enhance existing spaces, and we definitely want to attract citizens and visitors to the downtown core. Throughout the pandemic, workers and visitors have really been absent from the downtown. We’re trying to find a way to increase that vitality back into the downtown, so this project is what is called a placemaking project. It is a sign that says Downtown Moncton-Centreville.”
Poirier-Basque says this is a space that is accessible to everyone, whether they are out shopping or visiting the downtown for the first time…
DMCI is encouraging the use of #Downtown Moncton with any social media posts taken in front of the sign…
Poirier-Basque says, “We want it to be like an Instagrammable type, selfie poster sign so that you can take a photo in front of it. It is in a space that is accessible to everyone. People can go and sit and take a photo of it.”
She adds it’ll remain in place for the remainder of the summer and fall, but it will be removed in the winter to make room for Christmas Decorations, but it will return next spring.
“Ashford Living is proud to collaborate with DMCI on this placemaking project. Initiatives like these are what will ensure a growing and thriving downtown,” says Philippe Ouellette, with Ashford Living.
