A permanent bridge will be built on Route 133 in Robichaud, west of Cap-Pelé, to replace a structure damaged by Hurricane Dorian.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says the new 95-metre bridge, named Kouchibouguac River Bridge No.1, will be constructed at the same location as the previous bridge which was built in the 1960s.
“This is a vital link for the community,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Jill Green.
“The proposed plan will result in the construction of a new bridge on the shortest possible timeline, with less of an environmental impact than other options and resulting in a more resilient bridge.”
A temporary one-way crossing with a traffic light has been in place for almost two years after Dorian damaged the former bridge causing structural issues including loss of concrete from the deck which impacted the bridge’s strength.
The province says work on the new bridge is expected to start next year with a completion date likely by late 2023.
A news release did not include a cost estimate for the project and we have contacted DTI for more details.
