The City of Moncton will be observing the upcoming Truth and Reconciliation Day as a statutory holiday.
On September 30, Moncton City Hall will be closed and non-essential services will not be provided.
However, Codiac Transpo will operate on a regular schedule, waste collection will continue and recreational facilities such as the Coliseum, Crossman Centre/Kay Arena and Superior Propane Centre will remain open.
The Magnetic Hill Zoo and Resurgo Place will not be open.
The decision came at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
Moncton joins other municipalities such as Miramichi in making the move.
The province of New Brunswick recently decided not to observe September 30 as a statutory holiday although it will be for federally regulated employees.
Elsewhere, Nova Scotia is observing September 30 as a stat while Quebec and Alberta are not.
Parliament established the national holiday in June which was one of the actions recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
