Volunteers are needed in Moncton’s north end to take an active role in crime prevention.
The Codiac Regional Citizens on Patrol Association is a non-profit group created by the community.
Manager of Community Policing for the Codiac RCMP Eric Larose says they help to patrol their neighbourhoods and report suspicious activity, “We already have a group that is in the old West end. We have another group that started in Riverview and now we are going to be in the North end of Moncton to provide information on the program and answer questions for the citizens.”
While patrolling their neighbourhood, volunteers report any suspicious activity they see to the Codiac Regional RCMP through an App.
“Citizens on Patrol is Neighbourhood Watch 2.0 because it is all done electronically. We are asking people to give around five to ten hours of their time a month. We ask them to walk around in the neighbourhood,” Larose says.
An information session is planned for Monday, September 13th at 6 o’clock at the North End YMCA.
Larose says their plan is to expand even further with information sessions in Dieppe and Riverview as well in the future.
