The COVID-19 outbreak at the Harvest House shelter and community centre in Moncton has risen to 24 total cases.
Public Health declared the outbreak last Friday after six cases were confirmed within the facility. The situation is “concerning” for Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health, due to the vaccination status of many individuals at the shelter
” I do understand the vaccination rates are low but again it is a population that is relatively transient,” she said during a COVID-19 briefing.
Since the outbreak was declared, members of the Provincial Rapid Outbreak Management Team have worked at the shelter to continue testing and assure the facility is safe.
“My understanding is the PROMPT team has been working really closely with that organization, and it’s going as well as it absolutely can right now,” said Russell.
Public Health carried out an additional round of COVID-19 testing at Harvest House on Monday.
Over the weekend, residents of the House of Nazareth shelter in Moncton received testing due to concerns from Public Health; however, there were no positive tests.
