The Town hall for Riverview will be closed on September 30th, as they recognize Truth and Reconciliation day.
That decision was made at a council meeting this week.
Riverview joins other communities who will also recognize the day municipally including Moncton, Sussex and Miramichi.
Mayor Andrew Leblanc adds it will be a paid holiday for Riverview’s municipal employees.
Legislation passed in June to declare the day a federal statutory holiday.
Several provinces will also be recognizing it as a provincial stat, but that does not include New Brunswick.
Earlier this month, Premier Blaine Higgs said the provincial government is committed to identifying ways to acknowledge Sept. 30 as a day of recognition, “Our government encourages everyone to use this day as an opportunity to consider what each of us can do as individuals to advance reconciliation and help to create a better, more inclusive province,” Higgs said in a statement. “While September 30th will be observed in New Brunswick, it will not be a Statutory Holiday.”
