Nova Scotia telecommunication company Eastlink is continuing its expansion into neighbouring New Brunswick.
The company announced on September 22 that it is investing $26-million to bring more mobile services into the northern part of the province.
The expansion project will take a couple of years to complete, according to Eastlink’s press release.
“The project will expand existing coverage from Shediac to the Miramichi in 2022, followed by Bathurst and the Acadian Peninsula,” according to the release.
“The expansion will involve the addition of the most advanced network technologies as well an increase to the company’s retail presence in more communities.”
New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs applauded the latest investment by Eastlink.
“Having reliable access to mobile services is critical for living, working and learning,” said Higgs in the release. “We are encouraged to see Eastlink’s continued investment in New Brunswick, particularly in rural areas. Ventures like this align with our government’s commitment to strengthening the province’s economy while improving our connectivity.”
Eastlink first launched its mobile expansion initiative in 2013, investing more than $270-million to date. The investment has allowed Eastlink to provide mobile services in such New Brunswick cities as Saint John, Fredericton, Shediac and Sussex.
Recently, Eastlink spent an extra $27.9-million to purchase 3500MHz spectrum licenses, which will be compatible for devices powered by 5G.
