Vitalité Health Network is asking residents to avoid the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital emergency room overnight this weekend.
A shortage of medical staff has prompted the measure which will be in place from Friday to Sunday between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Vitalité says the ER will be available for urgent care for those who wish to see a doctor.
But ambulances may be diverted elsewhere and people could be referred to another hospital if the case is not considered an emergency.
If a health condition is not critical, officials urge people to visit a family doctor, nurse practitioner or pharmacist, or call Tele-Care 811.
