The Vitalité Health Network is asking people to limit overnight visits to the emergency department this weekend at the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital.
The temporary measure will run overnights from Friday to Monday between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.
A shortage of medical staff has prompted the move.
The ER will be open for urgent care cases only if someone needs to see a doctor but others may be referred elsewhere.
Non-urgent cases are asked to see their family doctor, a pharmacist or call Tele-Care 811.
After an initial assessment, ambulances may be redirected to another hospital.
