Two new 3D Mammography screening units at the Katherine Wright Centre will be a game-changer for early detection of breast cancer.
Through fundraising, the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation aims to raise $1.1 million for this technology. Their fundraising campaign launched on Thursday morning.
“This state-of-the-art technology is a game-changer allowing for superior imaging and more confident assessment of breast abnormalities at an earlier stage, ultimately saving lives,” says Dr. Jean-Pierre Martel, Radiologist and Co-Clinical Department Head at The Moncton Hospital.
Along with better performance, these units will allow patients to be more comfortable during procedures, according to the foundation.
Located on Arden Street, the KWC screens over 10,000 patients every year. However, its 2D technology has reached the end of its life span, and soon, replacement parts will be unavailable.
