Moncton City Councillor Daniel Bourgeois made a public apology on Monday evening after allegedly making inappropriate comments during a city committee meeting.
Earlier this month, Frank Vandenburg, Chairperson for the Enhancing Democracy committee, led a public presentation at council where he spoke of distressed committee members following comments made at a committee meeting.
The presentation was interrupted, and council called an impromptu private meeting.
Bourgeois, who sits on the Enhancing Democracy Report Implementation Committee, openly acknowledged his “overly passionate manner,” which led to a ”stupid comment” in an email sent to Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold.
“I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Moncton and especially to the citizens of Ward 2, including Carole Chan, for my comment,” Bourgeois said during Monday’s meeting.
The city said a code of conduct investigation would be conducted on the matter.
