A sharp rise in property assessments and strong construction activity are having an impact on the City of Dieppe’s bottom line in 2022.
In adopting next year’s budget, Dieppe City Council has tried to ease the tax burden on homeowners by reducing the tax rate 9 cents which now stands at $1.5395 per $100 assessed value.
In addition, water and sewer bills will remain at $948 annually.
Officials noted how the tax base increased by 13.3 percent mainly due to property assessments and steady construction growth.
“Despite the pandemic, which has made life somewhat difficult over the past year, Dieppe continues to experience strong growth and remains the ideal location for businesses and families looking for a stable, safe and dynamic environment,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
At Monday’s public meeting, city council adopted a $77 million operating budget for 2022 with $63.1 million for the general operating budget and $13.9 million for the water and sewer budget.
The capital budgets were also adopted with $23.9 million for the general capital budget and $5.4 million for the water and sewer capital budget.
In terms of spending next year, almost 23 percent will support police and fire services while 15 percent will be devoted to parks and recreation.
