East End Park in Moncton will have a different look after a new sports court, and upgrades to the existing playground are completed through the efforts of The City of Moncton and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
At 13,000 square feet, the Jumpstart Multi-Sport Court Moncton in the park at 35 Fergus Street will accommodate to physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities to provide all children with a space to enjoy and play together. The court allows for activities such as tennis, basketball, pickleball, and more.
“Jumpstart’s vision is to create inclusive play spaces where children of all abilities can share in the magic of sport and play,” said Marco Di Buono, Vice President of Programs and Operations for Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
“We are pleased to be working with our local Canadian Tire Associate Dealers and the City of Moncton to enhance the accessibility and upgrade the recreational options at Moncton’s East End Park.”
With the efforts of Canadian Tire Associate Dealers Ron Landry, Scott Bodnar, and Pierre Lauzon, the Multi-Sport Court will be part of the Charity’s Inclusive Play Project, while the City of Moncton will be contributing $447,000 to upgrade the existing playground equipment.
“The City of Moncton is incredibly grateful for the generosity of Jumpstart,” said Mayor Dawn Arnold.
“With the East End Pool having opened in 2019 and the newly-constructed Panacadie Trail connecting with the park as of this fall, these additions will make the East End Park an even greater place for Monctonians to gather”.
The City is seeking feedback through a public engagement survey on LetsChatMoncton.ca to determine the preferred playground structure(s) as well as input on the park upgrades and concept plans. The survey will remain open until Nov. 26.
Construction on the Jumpstart Multi-Sport Court Moncton and adjacent play structure is expected to be completed in 2022.
