Volunteers are needed this year to deliver Christmas Food boxes.
The Food Depot Alimentaire is filling 1700 boxes this year, to be handed out to those in need.
Spokesperson Donna Eagles says vehicles line up at the Moncton Coliseum on December 22nd before 12:30, to pick up boxes for delivery, “When they’re delivering the boxes, we’re asking them to call the recipients ahead of time so that they can meet them there at the door. The recipient can then take the box so we can make sure the right person is getting the delivery of the boxes as should be.”
Deliveries are done in the Moncton and Dieppe areas.
“We encourage people to take their three to four deliveries at a time. Once they are delivered, they can return back to the Coliseum. It usually takes from around 12:30 until around 4 o’clock before all of those 1700 boxes get delivered,” Eagles says.
Those who are volunteering to deliver boxes should be wearing a mask and following other COVID-19 protocols, including staying in their vehicle when they are loading it up at the Coliseum.
“This is an absolutely wonderful way for parents to involve their children or young adults to get a sense of what the real meaning of Christmas is because they see the faces of the individuals that we are providing this service for. It enables the general public to see the people they are helping and get that good sense of giving over the Christmas season,” Eagles adds.
