A new outdoor skating rink has been created in the village of Memramcook as provincial COVID-19 measures keep the doors closed at local arenas.
Built in just 48 hours, the Frank Gaudet Ice Oval is located on the field behind the Eugène (Gene) LeBlanc arena
Director of Public Works, Éric Mallet, took inspiration from similar projects in other communities and with the help of arena employees and the Memramcook ATV Club, designed and constructed the 150-metre loop in two days.
In the evenings, lights used for soccer and track and field will illuminate the oval for skaters, and maintenance will be covered by arena employees with the Zamboni.
Frank Gaudet, the rink’s namesake, has been an arena employee for almost 45 years and is known as one of the arena’s greatest ambassadors.
