The YMCA Community Action Network wants to help break down the stigma surrounding mental health and to raise awareness about available resources.
Five youth have helped organize an event called Mental Health 101 after they found themselves isolated and struggling during the pandemic.
Coordinator Hannah Lapointe says the teens wanted to raise awareness about the resources in the area.
“We’re really encouraging everyone to come no matter what your age is. Have a conversation with these organizations. Maybe sit in on a presentation and learn some things you might not know. Maybe there’s something you can share with a family member or share with someone you love.”
Atlantic Wellness, Sage Counselling and the Canadian Mental Health Association are among the organizations being represented at the event which will feature mental health-themed activities and presentations.
“Everybody’s mental health is individual. So the only way we’re going to help eradicate that stigma is when we start having these conversations and being honest with each other and feeling comfortable to have these conversations with the people closest to us,” adds Lapointe.
Mental Health 101 will be held on Sunday, March 20 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the YMCA Moncton North location on Twin Oaks Drive.
