Around 30, 000 runners were in Boston today, for the 126th annual Marathon.
The yearly tradition has been around since 1897. It was cancelled for the first time ever in 2020 due to COVID, and last year was rescheduled to the fall, with reduced numbers.
Cathy Donaldson of Moncton was there to see her daughter Sarah Donaldson run, “There’s just such a buzz across the city. There are runners from all over the world. It is really an experience of a lifetime to see everyone coming together and the vibe in town. Both the runners and the folks that are gathered here. People are really boisterous and bubbly and just excited to be here.”
This was Sarah’s first time qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
“Sarah has been running since she was a kid. We used to have a neighborhood running group up in the north end of Moncton. Then she ran through high school with Bernice McNaughton. And she continued to run recreationally. Since then she moved to Toronto, just in the last couple of years, she has gotten involved with a group called Black Toe running, and then became part of that team and qualified in Georgina, at the Georgina marathon in Ontario. We’re really excited to be here. We’re excited to cheer her on,” Donaldson says.
It wasn’t Donaldson’s first trip to Boston, but it is the first time she was there for the Marathon.
Donaldson adds, conditions were perfect for the race, with lots of sunshine.
Sarah finished the marathon with a time of 3:02:09.
