A kitchen fire in a Weldon Street building has left at least five people temporarily homeless.
Moncton Fire Captain Serge Boudreau says firefighters found smoke coming from the third floor when they arrived at around 1am Wednesday morning.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but there is severe damage to one unit and smoke and heat damage to the rest of the building.
It was in a building renovated to include at least five apartments.
Boudreau says it does not appear to be suspicious, but an investigation will be done today to determine a cause.
Three stations responded with around 12 firefighters were were on scene for over an hour.
The Canadian Red Cross assisted five adults, providing emergency lodging.
Additional help will be available if needed.
