A former church has become a community hub for Ukrainians in Moncton.
The former St. Andrew’s Church on Park Street has been acquired by the Ukrainian Club of Moncton.
The owner is renting the building to the club given their urgent need.
Members say the location will be used to collect and distribute donations for newcomers.
Some of the items being sought include furniture, appliances, baby strollers and gently used clothes and shoes.
With financial support from an ongoing United Way campaign, renovations are being made and the basement will house some refugees in the weeks ahead.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in late February, millions of Ukrainians have fled the country and more than 200 have arrived here in Southeast New Brunswick with hundreds more expected in the near future.
