Changes within the top ranks at the Dieppe Fire Department.
Marc Cormier is the first Fire Chief since Conrad Landry moved to the Moncton Fire Department in 2018.
“Since Chief Landry left to go to Moncton, the City of Dieppe had given itself as an objective to prepare a fire department master and strategic plan,” Cormier said. “With the development of the strategic plan, the city and the fire department thought that the next good step would be to sign a Fire Chief and a Deputy Chief. So we’ve worked extensively with an external consultant with expertise in HR and fire department strategic planning, and we’ve determined that was the next best move for the city.”
Cormier went onto say, “One of the things they are working on is more collaboration with other department in the tri-communities and other departments, We meet on a regular basis. We are always looking at ways of being more efficient in our response. We work very closely when it comes to incidents involving the Petitcodiac River, and the airport, so we are always looking for ways to be more efficient.”
He has been serving in his new role since January.
At the same time, Julien Boudreau was named to the role of Deputy Chief.
“We know that the last three years have been difficult with with COVID especially, but the Master Plan has already seen great achievements. So, with the arrival of the Platoon Chief rank within the fire department, we’ve increased our efficiency in terms of operations training and prevention,” Cormier stated. “We’ve worked closely with a committee inside the fire department to look at ways to reduce cancer with amongst the members,”
Chief Cormier currently oversees 47 members within the department, including administrative staff.
