Developer Ashford Living Lorentz Inc. has once again received a green light to build two six-storey apartment buildings in Moncton’s West End.
Moncton City Council approved a rezoning on Monday but also approved a similar rezoning last year at Main Street and Lorentz Drive.
Senior planner Josh Adams told Council another rezoning was needed when the developer made changes to the original plans.
“The biggest change is that there’s only now one access off Lorentz Drive whereas before there were two accesses. As well, the building footprint and the configuration has changed. We see two L-shaped buildings with the surface parking in behind.”
The two buildings will have 232 units which is a slight reduction along with underground parking and some ground floor commercial space in one of the buildings has also been reduced.
Adams noted development will be in two phases and the builder has agreed to install a sidewalk along Lorentz Drive.
“Phase one is going to be along Falkland Street and Lorentz. Phase two is going to be along Lorentz and Main. As part of this, the developer will be building a new sidewalk for the city along Lorentz Drive to help facilitate pedestrian movement to and from the site.”
At a public meeting on Monday, there were no objections to the rezoning.
