Tri-community residents with old and rundown items will have the chance to see them as good as new again.
Moncton-based non-profit RepairVerse has partnered with Youth Impact Jeunesse to hold its first repair café on Saturday.
RepairVerse Spokesperson Ali Ahmar said the event’s goal is to help reduce the consumption of new products and be environmentally friendly to landfills.
“This event will also provide an outlet for people who find fixing stuff prohibitive, so hence the idea of doing it free of charge so people can bring their stuff, get them fixed, and reuse them,” said Ahmar.
Ahmar said they can fix a number of different items, including computers, electronics, clothing, and wooden furniture.
He hopes their partnership with Youth Impact Jeunesse, which helps youth in the community, can help youth learn new skills.
“The idea of our partnership was the common goal to provide training workshops for the youth so they can learn new life skills and see if they would like to pursue a career,” said Ahmar.
The repair café will take place at the Youth Impact Jeunesse headquarters on St. George Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ahmar said if Saturday goes well, they plan to hold similar cafés on the second Saturday of every month, depending on volunteer numbers.
