The Moncton Hospital is revolutionizing uterine care with state-of-the-art technology.
It is the first hospital in Atlantic Canada to offer Laparoscopic Radiofrequency Ablation for patients with fibroids.
Fibroids are growths composed of smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue within the uterus, affecting approximately 70 per cent of women in various forms.
The innovative treatment effectively softens and shrinks fibroid tissues over time, allowing patients to preserve their uterus instead of undergoing a hysterectomy.
Dr. Stéphane Foulem, a gynecologist at The Moncton Hospital, said it is a game-changing technology.
“I can now offer my patients new interventions meaning less invasive, less recovery time, less downtime – allowing them to get back to living their best life,” said Dr. Foulem.
The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation purchased the new equipment at a cost of $150,000.
Greg King, president and CEO, said having this modern technology puts Moncton on the map for a best-in-class fibroid treatment centre for women,
Several patients have already benefited from the purchase of this new technology.
