August 15 is the day that celebrates the cultural vitality and enduring heritage of the Acadian people.
The City of Dieppe, the largest Acadian city east of Québec, will host the 41st National Acadian Day festivities from 4 to 11:30 p.m.
Tourism Initiatives Manager Helena Lavanchy said approximately 15,000 people will gather at the MusiquART site, which has a full lineup of musical programming, food vendors, and a cash bar. She also said some of the collected funds will be donated to the Dieppe Rotary Club.
“It is the pride of being French and of French descent, so a celebration is expected every single year,” said Lavanchy.
The MusiquART site will host several family activities, including bouncy castles and an arts and crafts tent, from 4 to 8 p.m.
The classic Tintamarre parade, where participants march through the community creating a ruckus with makeshift instruments and various noisemakers, will kick off from MusiquART at 5:55 p.m. The procession will wind its way down Collège, Champlain and Notre Dame streets before making its way back to the celebration site.
Musicians such as La Bottine Souriante, Marc Babin, Dominique Dupuis and Chris Wheaton will be performing.
Festivalgoers will be able to park at the UNIplex and CCNB.
More details can be found on the city’s website.
