A proposal to name an access road in Moncton after a professional baseball player.
City of Moncton Senior Development Officer Paul Edgar says it is located off Russ Howard Drive.
“This will be in honour of the late Moncton-born Rheal Cormier. His outstanding achievements to baseball and his contributions to Moncton.”
This came at the request of Councillor Bryan Butler.
Moncton City Council also proposed changing several other street names including a portion of Ryan Street, located between Canadian Tire and the Battery House.
It will be renamed Bâtisseurs Street.
The renaming received a unanimous vote during a Committee of the Whole meeting this week.
“With Ryan Street occurring on both sides of Wheeler Boulevard, confusion can occur for emergency response and navigation services. Renaming this portion of Ryan Street can enhance public safety and improve navigational clarity.
A proposal was also made for Glendalea Crescent off Frampton Lane for the same reasons. There was confusion with Glendale Crescent, which is located near Centennial Park.
A name to replace Glendalea Crescent will be decided upon by residents who live on that street, and by Moncton City Councillors. Several names have been chosen and will be voted on.
A proposed name for a trail that runs between MacAleese Lane and Blakney Street has also been identified as Symphonie Trail.
It was also proposed that Harper Street be changed to Bateau Street.
A list of potential street names was also entered into a name bank for future use.
Changes received a unanimous vote at this week’s Committee of the Whole meeting, but they will still need to be voted on at the next Moncton City Council meeting.
