Moncton’s has received the 2024 International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Excellence Award.
The submission from the the city’s economic development department won gold in the Real Estate Development and Reuse category.
Presented by Clare Barnett, the Canadian representative of IEDC, the award recognizes Moncton’s outstanding achievements in fostering economic growth and revitalization.
“I’m extending my congratulations personally, but also on behalf of the board of IEDC and the awards committee, who was extremely impressed with the submission,” Barnett said.
Moncton’s submission highlighted the growth and rejuvenation of downtown following the opening of the Avenir Centre in late 2018.
Key achievements include:
- Exceeding the target of $108 million in new downtown tax base by 2023, delivering $192 million.
- Issuing $333 million in new downtown building permits from 2017 to 2023.
- Constructing over 1,000 new downtown residential units.
Luc Babineau, interim director of Economic Development at the City of Moncton, played a key role in steering the city’s economic growth and rejuvenation efforts.
“There was a lot of hard work that was put in by city staff. I would like to thank the broader group and all the participants that made this achievement possible,” Babineau said.
