Moncton organizations are showing support for a proposed seniors centre at 1010 St. George Boulevard.
Reverend Aaron Billard recently spoke before Moncton City Council, expressing that it’s time to show seniors how much we care.
“With 1010 St. George, we have an opportunity before us as Monctonians for our seniors to gather in a designated space where there are social programs, music, exercise, fun and community. We owe it to our seniors whose community service keeps Moncton as one of the greatest Canadian cities to live in, who cared for us while we were all growing up.”
In January, Rising Tide announced it had purchased the building with the plan to create senior housing on the top floors, and an opportunity to utilize the first floor for other community use.

A public meeting will be held before Moncton City Council in April to look at the idea of creating a seniors centre.
A proposal called Project 1010 Seniors Centre was presented to City Councillors in February.

“Currently we have 368 registered senior clients in our MAGMA database from around the world. MAGMA recognizes the critical role a seniors centre would play in supporting seniors in our community and season opportunity to collaborate by offering intergenerational, intercultural and inclusive programs that will benefit both seniors and newcomers in the Greater Moncton area,” says Alison Frise, Managing Director for the Multicultural Agency of Greater Moncton.
“These proposed activities between seniors and newcomers will build mutual understanding and lasting connections. Both groups experience improved mental well-being, reduce social isolation and enrich cultural awareness.”
