There’s significant fire and smoke damage to a home on Lewis Street.
Reports of a fire came in at around 8:30 am on Monday. Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brad Calhoun says the townhouse is at Lewis and St. George Street.
“We arrived to see some heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the structure. So the crew went to work immediately, stretching a hand line to contain the fire and search the building. We responded with two engines, two trucks and our rescue.”
Three units were evacuated, but Calhoun couldn’t confirm how many residents were affected.
He says NB Power was called in, and they turned off power to a total of five homes.
“We were on scene for about an hour and a half. There were no injuries to civilians, no injuries to firefighters. We were able to rescue one family pet cat that was returned to the owners on the scene,” Calhoun added.
He says the cat was doing well, a little traumatized but was doing okay.
“It was a fairly routine operation, but the firefighters did a great job,” Calhoun stressed.
An investigation is underway to help determine the cause of the fire.
NB Power, Ambulance New Brunswick and Codiac Transpo were also on the scene.
