The cost of a new Codiac Regional RCMP building continues to climb.
Moncton City Council has approved an additional $2.1 million for the project, bringing the total to over $59.2 million.
The explanation for the increase given at this week’s Moncton City Council meeting was due to unforeseen factors and expenses.
In 2022 the budgeted cost for the new building was around $57.1 million.
Two Councillors voted against the additional funds, Councillors Shawn Crossman and Brian Bourgeois.
Councillor Bryan Butler voted in favour but went on record during the meeting saying he wasn’t in agreement, “We’re so far along, pretty well have to support it, but I will say that I’m not in agreement. First, it started at $46 million, then went up to $52 million. Then it went up to $56 million, and now we’re going close to $60 million.”
The new building is currently under construction on Albert Street. It is expected to open this summer.
