Moncton is making history in 2025 with building permits valued at $198.6 million issued in the first quarter.
This marks an unprecedented leap from the $56.6 million issued during the same period last year.
Driving this growth is Phase 2 of the Atlantic Science Enterprise Centre at 343 Université Avenue.
Valued at $112.1 million, this project takes up more than half of the total permit value and will bring new labs and office spaces to the city.
In the first quarter, 111 residential permits were issued for the development of 420 new housing units.
This is 2.5 times more compared to the 164 units that were permitted during the same period last year.
These developments had a total permit value of $62.6 million. Two big projects were a $17.3 million apartment building with 143 units at 280 Millennium Blvd., and an $11 million building with 77 units at 30 Waterloo St.
The commercial sector also played a role, with 37 permits issued for developments such as the $5.6-million Manitoulin Transport expansion and a $1.8-million self-storage warehouse.
Institutional permits include a $6.4-million renovation of the hospital pharmacy at Université Avenue.
